A Celebration of Duality and Self-Expression: "Your Soul"
As someone who has spent a lifetime navigating two distinct worlds, I’m always searching for ways to bridge them. With my piece, Your Soul, I sought to capture the essence of this experience—the beauty and strength of my cultural duality, as well as the power of self-expression and identity. This triptych is more than just a painting; it’s a reminder that our uniqueness should be embraced.
The Creative Process
I created Your Soul using acrylic, oil, and genuine 24k gold leaf. The black and white hues represent the two separate worlds I occupy—one steeped in tradition and culture, the other driven by progress and ambition. The gold leaf that lies between them speaks to my own identity, symbolizing the fragments of my divinity and the power of self-expression. It was crucial for me to incorporate these elements so that viewers could connect with each aspect of this duality.
The Meaning Behind My Artwork
This piece is a reminder that we can remain connected to our roots while forging ahead into the future, embracing all that makes us unique. It serves as an ode to those who have come before us, paving the way for future generations to find their authentic selves while still honoring their heritage. For me, this painting represents what it means to be a proud product of two worlds—something that has profoundly shaped who I am today.
The creative process behind Your Soul was as much about celebrating duality and self-expression as it was about connecting with others who share similar experiences or backgrounds. I hope this artwork will help viewers see themselves in its story—and perhaps offer some comfort during these uncertain times—reminding them that our uniqueness should always be embraced, no matter what life throws our way. Ultimately, it is through creating art like Your Soul that I am able to express myself authentically and find true joy in life. Works like these allow me to push past any boundaries or roadblocks placed on me by society or circumstance, becoming even more immersed in my craft—and growing closer to myself each day in the process.
